For centuries doves have symbolised peace, tranquility and love. A single white dove symbolises the spirit and soul of a loved one whose life has now ended. Releasing a dove can be a very personal and loving gesture for the bereaved – an additional and special touch particularly in the following circumstances:
Where the family have requested no flowers but would like a tribute that is a little different;
Where the bereaved are looking for a poignant gesture as a way of saying their final goodbye;
Where they want to symbolise the release of their Loved One's spirit;
Where a loved one has passed away and the bereaved partner would like to recognise the joining of spirits and eternal love through the release of 2 doves;
Where both partners have passed away and the bereaved family would like to symbolise the joining of their spirits through the release of two doves; and
Where a partner, children or grandchildren of the loved one each wish to release a dove to symbolise a promise of eternal love and remembrance.
An individual, or indeed the entire family may release doves. This can take place at the graveside or at the conclusion of the service at the crematorium. The doves can be released by the handler or given to a family member for them to release personally.
You can ask your funeral director to contact us or call us and we will liaise with them. Alternatively you may choose to organise the release directly through us.
